Dr. Saleet Jafri awarded research grant from NIH

Professor Saleet Jafri of the School of Systems Biology in the College of Science has been awarded a $5.5 million, 5 year NIH award entitled "Calcium Entrained Arrhythmias". This is a collaborative multi-PI proposal with Prof. Jonathan Lederer of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Technology at the University of Maryland Baltimore and Prof. Raimond Winslow of the Institute for Computational Medicine that is part of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institutes' Systems Biology of the Heart funding program. The goal of the project is to pursue a joint experimental and computational multi-scale systems approach to understand how the action of individual proteins involved in calcium regulation can lead to the generation of cardiac arrhythmia.
