Textbook: Applied Numerical Methods for Scientists and Engineers by Singiresu S. Rao
Course Description:
Computational techniques for solving scientific problems focusing on
applications in bioinformatics and computational biology. The student will
develop the ability to convert a quantitative problem into computer programs
to solve the problem. Efficiency and readability of code will be emphasized.
Prerequisites: Elementary Calculus and knowledge of a programming language. An understanding of the basic concepts of linear algebra and introductory differential equations is helpful.
Grading Policy:
Homework 40%
Midterm Exam 30%
Final Exam 30%
Homework assignments will be assigned several times during the semester.
They will be due two weeks after they are assigned. Late homeworks will
not be accepted.
At the end of the semester there will be a final exam or final project.
Academic Honesty Policy : Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated.
This includes cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of academic records.
That being said, you can help each other out on the homework (this does
not mean that you can copy each other's homework).
